Computing
We expect every child to be digitally literate and build a strong foundation of transferable computational skills to apply into their daily lives.
When planning and teaching at St John’s, we believe that Computing is an essential part of the curriculum. Computing is involved in a significant part of daily life and children should be at the forefront of new technology, developing a thirst for learning new skills and technologies. Computers and technology are such an integral part of everyday life that our children would be at a disadvantage if not be exposed to a thorough and robust Computing curriculum.
Computing lessons within our school provide a wealth of learning opportunities and transferable skills explicitly within Computing lessons, as well as across other curriculum subjects. Through the study of Computing, children will be able to develop a wide range of fundamental skills, knowledge and understanding that will equip them for the rest of their lives.
Children must be taught in the form of ‘Computational Thinking’ in order to provide their essential knowledge that will enable them to participate effectively and safely in the digital world beyond our gates. Our pupils leave primary school as critical thinkers who are able to understand how to make informed and appropriate digital choices. They understand the power of technology to help showcase their ideas and creativity and which software is best placed to help them deliver the outcome they want using the skills they have learnt.
